Kirkland Augustus Michael (born May 5, 1989), is an American professional baseball first baseman for the Philadelphia Blue Jays of the North American Baseball Association. Drafted by the Baltimore Barons out of high school, Michael was released twice as a prospect; both from the Barons and from the Edmonton Trappers, before being picked up by the Blue Jays in 2011 as a 22-year old minor-league free agent. As he mentioned in a Sports Illustrated interview regarding his releases: "I was ready to give up baseball and become the lawyer my dad always wanted me to be."
Michael was called up to the Blue Jays 2012, and was an All-Star in 2015, upon hitting .327. He is known as a joker, famous for a viral prank where he convinced teammate Jason Adams that he was traded to a Korean team, with a fake contract and all.
