The Baltimore Barons are an American professional baseball franchise based in Baltimore, Maryland. They are in the North American Baseball Association's American League, and were in the league's first expansion, in 1892. At this time, they were known as the Chicago Barons. For much of Baltimore's history, the team was known as the Black Sox, until new management returned the team to its old Chicago name, an attempt to boost the popularity of the team even further at a time where they were reaching the playoffs.
The Barons are in a three-way tie for second-most championships in the NABA, the other two teams being the Atlanta Kings and Queens Bees. They have 13 championships in total, and 33 playoff appearances. Despite the team's hefty historical success, they haven't been to the playoffs in 17 years, since 2000. This drought is often called the Millenial Curse, considering its start at the top of the millennia.
